LUMEN Voices: Net7

In this series, we share short interviews to introduce you to the diverse partners contributing to our LUMEN vision. Each month, we’ll shine a spotlight on two of our partners—offering a glimpse into who they are, what they do, and what drives their work within LUMEN. In this edition, Tiziana Lombardo answered our questions.

- Can you briefly introduce your organisation and its role within the LUMEN project?
Net7 is an IT company based in Pisa, Italy, which specializes in Web and Data Science technologies, AI, Text Analysis, and Semantic Web. Net7 participated in the development of the GoTriple platform. In LUMEN it leads WP4, which is dedicated to the development of the White Label discovery platforms.
- What is the most exciting aspect of your contribution to LUMEN, and how does it align with your organisation’s mission or values?
Building on the experience of GoTriple’s development, Net7 will actively collaborate in the creation of powerful discovery platforms, to be used not only for the scholarly disciplines of LUMEN but potentially by any scientific community, as the software will be open source. Bringing value to open science is therefore what aligns best to the traditional values and mission of Net7.
- LUMEN is all about interdisciplinary collaboration. How do you envision the project transforming the way research is
This can be seen from two different angles: on the one hand, the scientific communities of LUMEN are presenting their needs which will produce an enrichment of the ways GoTriple has acquired and processed content metadata so far. On the other hand, the Data Mesh technology will pave the way to create natural synergies amongst the result of research in different domains, encouraging an organic cross-fertilisation in open science.
- Looking ahead to 2027 and beyond, what impact do you hope the LUMEN project will have on the broader research community and beyond?
Our greatest hope is that the White Label Discovery platform will prove to be a powerful and effective tool within the European Open Science Cloud. We also aim to complete the LUMEN project by delivering two new discovery platforms—one for Earth System Sciences and one for Molecular Dynamics—fully tailored to the needs of their respective communities. And of course, we’re also committed to making major improvements to GoTriple!
